Music Festival Committees
The next meeting will be Wednesday, November 7. Attendance is mandatory at this meeting if you want to be in a committee for the music festival. Please look over the list below and come with a first and second choice in mind.
- Sponsorship Committee: research possible sponsors, create sponsorship packet, pitch to sponsors, follow up with sponsors, and make sure the sponsors are getting everything negotiated in the contract
- Marketing Committee: Create and design promotional materials, market ticket sales, sell the tickets, design t-shirts and tickets
- PR/ Media Relations Committee: create news pitches, pitch to various media, write press releases, develop a press kit, write band biographies, act as media liaisons
- Finance Committee: keep record of all the money, create a budget for what each committee can spend, develop a spread sheet for each committee
- Artist Talent Relations Committee: form relationships with different bands, listen to cds and vote on who will perform, act as stage directors
- Vendors/ Venue Committee: deal with any legal issues, research possible vendors, police’ bouncers, design the layout, research companies to rent the stage/lighting/sound
All of these committees are vital to the success of an amazing event! If you would like to be a committee head, please email your resume to either Jackie or Emily Coleman.
Please remember to be thinking of names for the festival!

2007 National Convention
Last weekend PRSSA held its National Convention in Philadelphia. This year celebrated the 40th Anniversary of PRSSA and the 60th Anniversary of PRSA. We had the opportunity to network with fellow PRSSA members from colleges across the country and public relations professionals from some of the biggest agencies in the world. By attending the conference, we had the opportunity to listen to many professionals speak on a variety of topics. The sessions ranged from product placement to testing your writing skills to event planning to entertainment pr.
The Keynote Speaker was Rich Jernstedt, CMO, EVP and Senior Partner of Fleishman-Hillard who answered the top ten questions students have asked him in the past. MSNBC’s Tim Russert from Meet the Press gave atendees “A View From Washington.” The famous Mia Farrow spoke to us on the genocide in Darfur.
The last night consisted of an awards ceremony. I highly recommend students looking at the different contests on the PRSSA Website.
Please come and talk to us if you want to hear more about it!

2007-2008 Projects and Committees
This year, our chapter of PRSSA wants everyone to get real-world experience with public relations. We are going to have three events and public relations campaigns that people are going to be able to work on.
- Kennedy’s Coffee: We are going to do a whole public relations campaign to increase popularity and sales of this coffee house.
- Beerfest: We are going to work closely with Mellow Mushroom to put on this event. We will work with beer vendors, bands, and the Riverdogs Marketing Department.
- Music Festival: We are changing our annual Battle of the Bands to a music festival. We will need committees in charge of bands, tickets, and promotion.
Please think about which committee you would most like to be involved. Please remember, if you volunteer on a committee it will be great real world experience and will look great on a resume, however you will need to contribute time and ideas in order for a successful event or campaign!

Spring Music Festival
This year, instead of Battle of the Bands, we may try something different along the lines of a music festival. Please let us know any ideas! We are going to have a prize for the person who comes up with the best name! If you have an idea, just add a comment to this post. If you have any questions, email me at epeck@edisto.cofc.edu
